Obituary of John F. Fielding
Lieutenant Colonel John F. Fielding (ret), 79, passed away in Florida on May 20, 2018. John, the son of Edward M. and Mary Caffrey Fielding, Cromwell, was born in Middletown. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1957, Niagara University in 1961 and received a master’s degree at UCONN in 1962. John served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1984, with two tours in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with four oakleaf clusters, Meritorious oak leaf cluster, nine air medals, Army Commendation Medal with oakleaf cluster, Valorous Unit Citation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Combat Infantry’s Badge. After retirement, John taught social studies at Bacon Academy in Colchester, CT and coached cross country and field and track. He leaves his wife, the former Marilyn Walker of Middletown, four children, and four grandchildren. Donations in John’s name may be made to the Veterans in Distress Outreach, P.O. Box 192, Old Lyme, CT. 06371. A graveside service with the rendering of Full Military Honors will be held on July 19,2018 at 12:00 noon at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
