Just one more thing. The day that I saw John and Micky during my road trip back to Chicago was I believe 1/2/78-44 years to this day. What a coincidence!

I met John and Micky in the summer of '73 when I took some biology courses at Allegheny college as a pre-med student. What a fine and gentle soul he was with such a laconic sense of humor. I kept in touch, and before med school in '78 I took a trip to Europe with a friend. Pete eventually went north to visit his distant Swedish relatives (who didn't speak English-ha ha) and I came back and drove cross country in our old Mercury Maverick to Chicago (and after not talking with Pete for nearly a year, I just got off the phone with him a few hours ago-2 hours 33 min.-he is not laconic).I stopped off in Meadville on a whim and went to the old address. Same house, furniture, same cat. Nearly five years later, John and Micky were the same weight, and had the same hair and clothes, etc. Micky was still knitting with purpose and intent. For the first and only time in my life, I really felt that I had gone back in time. They had grown as people, but on that day they were college students again. The cat even appeared to pose as a college cat.
What a special memory.
John liked Joan Didion's book: "Play It As It Lays". I read that she had passed a couple of days before Christmas, and I thought I could call him up and commiserate with him about her. So on a whim last week I tried to look him up in the Sacramento area where I thought he had relocated. There were a number of John Clements in the area. Maybe my memory was faulty. So I chased another whim tonight on google typing in his name and Allegheny College, and (sigh) here I am with my memories.
I am so happy that John and Micky had Katherine, and had a wonderful life together.
I remember John being whimsical. In his world, it continues to work.

Right now, when your loss is so fresh, it may be difficult for you to imagine that this pain will ever go away. But in time the blessing of God's unfailing love will soften the hurt you're feeling and bring your heart the peace, comfort and hope that it needs to heal. How? Revelation 21:4 tells us that soon everything that causes us pain, including death, will be gone forever. We also have the hope of our loved ones being resurrected here on earth, as Acts 24:15 tells us. I do hope you find comfort in this.
Though I do not know your loved one, I am touched by your loss. My heartfelt condolences.

Too many years have gone by, but John and Micky have often been in my thoughts. I always think with fondness of you folks in the big gray house in Meadville. John in the garden. The books. And John's bright spirit. David and I send our sincere condolences.
