Obituary of John C. Clements
John “Corky” C. Clements, age 67, passed away on Monday morning, September 10, 2018 at Middlesex Hospital after a long illness. John was born at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT on September 5, 1951. He was the eldest son of John T. Clements and Mildred Day Clements. He was a graduate of Westbrook High School (Class of 1969) and a student at Allegheny College in Erie, Pennsylvania. John was a resident of Grove Beach Point Association and spent many summers on the beach with neighbors and relatives, and on the family boat, “Basicly”. John took over the family business, Clements Jewelers, with his father in 1988. John was if anything, a friend to everyone. He knew how to make customers smile and forge lifelong relationships with everyone who entered the store. He served on the Downtown Meriden Advisory board and was the Chairman of the Westbrook Inland Wetlands Commission for over 20 years, spending many hours dutifully studying zoning maps and planning town meetings. John loved watching old movies, gathering friends together, planning Easter egg hunts for his daughter, sneaking into “double features” at the cinema, collecting comic books, and listening to music. His optimism and laughter was contagious, and he will be missed. He is survived by his lifelong partner, Micky Komara, their daughter, Katherine Clements, his sisters Lynn Clements (Kathy Williams) and Janet Dickey (Jeffrey), his nephews Geoffrey and Kevin Dickey, Luke Kwiecinski, and his niece, Lili Dickey, and several cousins. The family would like to thank Apple Rehab Old Saybrook for their long term care and commitment to his wellbeing for the last ten years, and the Hospice Unit at Middlesex Hospital for their compassion and caring in his final days. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Clinton, 12 Commerce Street, Clinton. Burial will follow in the Cypress Cemetery in Westbrook. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Westbrook Land Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 1124, Westbrook, CT 06498.
