Obituary of David Coombs Turner

David Coombs Turner, age 88 a longtime resident of Deep River passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Chesterfields Health Care Center in Chester following a long battle with cancer. He was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on August 18, 1930 the son of Arthur C. and Dorothy (Taylor) Turner. He was one of nine siblings. David retired after many years as a Pressman at UARCO in Deep River.  David was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving his country from 1950 through 1954 during the Korean War. He cared greatly for his community and served as an active fireman as a member of the Deep River Fire Department. He also was a member of the Deep River Ambulance Association both during the 1960’s and early 1970’s. David was an avid reader and could always be found at home reading a book and insisted that you read it if it interested him. He also was an avid horseshoe player in the Deep River League and on nice days he could be found practicing his turn shoe at home or at the horseshoe pit. David had the gift of gab and would talk your ear off if you let him. He will be missed by many and welcomed by those who have gone before him. He leaves his sons, Jeffrey Turner, of Maine, Edward Turner and his wife Joann, of Deep River, Daniel Turner and his wife Candy, of North Carolina, his daughter, Debra Caulfield and her husband Kevin, of Deep River, and his step-daughter Laura Lintelman Conigliaro, his grandchildren, Troy Turner and his partner Jennifer Ward, Andrew Becker and his wife Jessica, Alicia Becker, Curtis Turner, Wayne Caulfield and his wife Kelsey, Heather Caulfield, Ben Turner and Brian Turner, his great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Ryan Turner, Eleanor Dorothy Caulfield and Harper Jade Becker. He also is survived by his brother Buzzy Turner of Mount Dora, Florida, and the many special friends that he made at Kirtland Commons where he lived. David was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Harold, John, Richard and Robert Turner, and Natalie Sampson, Patricia Stebbins and June Fuller, and his grandson, Ryan Turner. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A graveside service with the rendering of Military Honors will be conducted in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street in Deep River on Monday, October 1st at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in David’s name to the Deep River Fire Department, 57 Union Street, Deep River, CT 06417
