Obituary of Walter Seluke Sr.
Walter Seluke Sr. “Walt” or “Papa”, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2018 after a long illness at age 82. Walter was born in Pittsfield, MA on March 20, 1936 son of Michael and Jenny (Walenty) Seluke. He was predeceased by his son Walter "Buddy" Seluke, Jr. and grandson Robert T. Longhenry, Jr. as well as his brothers Michael Seluke Jr., Paul M. Seluke, Joseph Seluke and Donald P. Seluke.
Walt is survived by his loving wife Carol M. (Mansen) Seluke of Deep River. Sisters: Helen Johnson, Ledyard CT and Wanda Ravizolli, Bradenton, FL; son David P. Seluke and daughters Donna Seluke Zanardi and son in law Daniel W. Zanardi, Cynthia Longhenry and husband Robert T. Longhenry, Sr., Judith Seluke and son in law Brian Howell, Sandra Atkinson and husband Richard Atkinson, Jr., as well as his grandchildren, Michael Bertelli, Alexandra Zanardi, Chloe Zanardi Neal, Mckenna Atkinson and Richard Atkinson III. Walter also leaves behind many wonderful friends; namely his dearest friend of 72 years Donald Foley and wife Rose Foley of Mesa, AZ and his so kind care-giver Betty French whom Walter affectionately referred to as his friend and 'the best cook ever'.
Walt was known as a hard-working family man, he was employed by Uarco in Deep River for over 31 years before he retired. In his retirement he worked for the Clinton Country Club. He worked endless hours to provide for his family. He had no shortage of energy and in his spare time you could find him coaching little league, umpiring games or enjoying a game of cards with friends. He worried endlessly about the happiness of his children and grandchildren. He was a pillar of strength and will be forever loved and dearly missed.
Visitation for Walter will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 5:00pm at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook, Connecticut. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 1:00pm at The First Congregational Church of Deep River, 1 Church Street in Deep River. Interment will follow in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street in Deep River. A reception to celebrate his life will immediately follow the interment service at the United Scandinavian Society, 10 Riverview Avenue in Deep River.
