Obituary of Earl Endrich Sr.
Earl Endrich Sr., of 919 Middlesex Turnpike in Old Saybrook passed away from a heart attack on January 20, 2019 at Middlesex Hospital. He was born in 1931 at 973 Middlesex Tpke, the original Endrich homestead. Son of Frederick and Marguerite (Collomore) Endrich, he was a 1950 graduate of Old Saybrook High School. Earl was the founder/owner in 1957 of the Earl Endrich Real Estate and Insurance Agency conducting business at his 6 Main St. building in Old Saybrook for nearly 30 years, now the location for a part of Saybrook Homes. He was elected State Representative in 1960 and served three terms. He held a U.S. Coast Guard Captains license and chartered fishing parties on his boat, Scavenger. He was a 31 year member of the Old Saybrook Fire Dept. and was instrumental in the acquisition of Firemans Field for the Dept. He was appointed Old Saybrook Harbormaster, was a member of the Waterfront Commission, the Shellfish Commission, a Justice of the Peace, Republican Town Chairman in 1992 and was past master of Siloam (now Anchor) Masonic Lodge. In 1966 he built the barn (scene of recent tragedy) where he ran a passive farm for 40 years and where he had horses, sheep, donkeys, geese, peafowl, and of course pairs of oxen that he pulled at the fairs all over New England. There were Tom and Henry, Tom and Paul, and most especially Tom and Jerry who he trained and pulled for 18 years and who lived here another amazing ten years beyond in happy retirement. Not only a fisherman, he was also a sailboat enthusiast, sharing many yearly adventures island hopping in the Caribbean with a jolly crew of friends. Earl is survived by his loving wife, Emily of 26 years, son, Earl Jr (Laurie Troyer), daughter Heidi Endrich-Bone (Robert) of Springtown, TX. ; grandchildren ; Earl III (Krista)of Newark, DE; Hope Wills of Springtown, TX, sister Madeline Tooker(Bill) of Old Saybrook, and stepdaughters Debbie Steele(Rick) and Leslie Henebry (Mark) of Essex, and step-grandchildren, Bailey and Kristen Steele. He was predeceased by brother, Fred and sister Viola Dozier. He loved Old Saybrook and when often asked: "have you lived here all your life:" laughed when answering: "not yet"!! He fully enjoyed his 87 years. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home 34 Main Street in Centerbrook.
