I cannot figure out how I missed it, but it appears Bob has been gone for awhile when I read the news of his service coming up in August. Now when I shake my head and wonder what's wrong with the world I'll know. Bob Nuhn isn't here anymore. Bob and his Greatest Generation companions were the glue that held so much of our fragmented world together. It was my great pleasure to be Bob's pastor at FBC in Essex for a few years. During a sermon it was always reassuring to look over to Bob's place in the sanctuary and catch a smile from him.
My most complete memory of Bob is of a meal that he and I and a couple of others shared at the Ivoryton Tavern one night when Irma was with the women from the church for a Ladies Night Out. With the usual twinkle in his eye he told the waitress how she reminded him of a young Sophia Loren and for the duration of the meal he wove stories of the Ivoryton Theatre, baseball, and World War II together. It was Bob at his best! Every now and then when a particular person would come into the story, he would say, as he often did, "He was the nicest guy."
I'm sure I won't be the only person to say this about Bob, but he was the nicest guy.
