Obituary of Irene Christine Wall

Irene Christine Wall (Antczak) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 22, 2019, after a courageous battle against cancer.  Irene was born April 12, 1947 in Frille, Germany.  In 1951, at the age of 4, Irene and her mother, Anna Antczak, immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island. Irene grew up on the North Shore of Boston, MA where the Polish Community became their extended family.  After graduating from Lynn Classical High School in 1965, Irene attended Fisher Junior College in Boston, MA.  Irene married her high school sweetheart, George Edward Wall, in 1968. Colorful, happy and full of life, Irene was able to make those around her smile.  Her love of quilting, gardening, cooking, and family filled her heart.  She enjoyed talking with people and had the best time sharing stories and a cup of tea with friends.   Later in life, she and George began to travel the world.  They spent many winters in Maui, visited the Galapagos, Venezuela, Chile, Patagonia, Easter Island, Alaska, Cape Horn, Africa and the Panama Canal. Talented and creative, Irene’s Polish upbringing can be seen as an influence in her quilting.  Bright color combinations and patterns found the attention of Better Homes and Gardens who featured her quilt in one of their issues.  She was very active in the Shoreline Quilters Guild for many years. Irene was always there to help.  Whether it was volunteering at the Shoreline Food Pantry of Old Saybrook, cashiering at the Estuary Council of Seniors, or selling tickets for the HEAT Spaghetti Dinner, Irene could be counted on within her Old Saybrook, Connecticut community.  Those who volunteered with her will miss her contagious enthusiasm. Irene is survived by her husband, George E. Wall, of 52 wonderful years. They celebrated their milestone 50th anniversary with family and friends in 2018. She is also survived by her son, John Antczak (Karen); her daughter Katrina Wall (Peter Wallace); her son Christopher Wall (Karen); her daughter Catherine Wall (Tom Bobbin); and her eight grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 26th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St, Centerbrook, CT.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries, PO Box 804, Essex, CT  06426 tel. 860-388-1988 (please reference Old Saybrook location) or your local animal rescue shelter.
