I am very sorry to read of the death of Mrs. Anna Southwick. Although she was not often travelling with her husband to Pietrasanta, Italy, to control the bronze sculptures that we made for him, I remember her as a person very kind, gentle, always smiling.
To Her husband and the whole family we send our deepest condolences, by the whole family of Massimo Del Chiaro.
I apologize for the bad English translation

I remember Anne most distinctly when I was a first year resident, riding the Essex Christmas train. She came over to Lynn and me with our baby girl and made a point to visit with us and give us a generous portion of her time when we were new to the department. Her kindness and warmth will live on in our hearts.

I, like many of the people who trained at Yale under Dr. Southwick got to know Ann through her enduring support of the program (and her loving support of her husband). The magicical thing about her is that she was such a charismatic, endearing and wonderful human being and so accomplished in her own right. As my wife occasionally reminds me, "Behind every great man is a truly great woman...or at least a woman who is very surprised". Ann was both truly great, and probably also a bit surprised. She will be greatly missed.

Dear Dr. Southwick:
We have such fond memories of your lovely wife. She was such a gracious hostess when you and she opened your lovely home to the Ortho residents and their families for the numerous parties and BBQ's that you invited us to. How lucky we were to spend some time with your family in such a lovely setting! We feel so fortunate to have had the the two of you in our lives.

Ann was the shining star, guiding light and moral compass for generations of young students and residents at Yale during a formative, exciting and frightening time in their education. As such, she left an indelible mark of support, encouragement and meaning in the hearts and heads of many grateful individuals fortunate enough to experience her magic and be part of her enduring legacy.

Dear Wayne,
Please accept our most sincere condolences. I recall driving to your home to pick up the blue Checker to run the carpool whenever you were away somewhere. Ann would cheerfully give me the keys and tell me, "Just park it somewhere and tell Wayne when you see him." Elena and I will keep you in our prayers. John and Elena Wolf.

I will so miss Ann and her wonderful presence. The positive impact both she and Wayne have had on their communities--Old Lyme, New Haven and Haiti--is beyond measure. Ann was a patron of the arts, a guiding spirit and loving soul. She always welcomed my classes to paint on the lovely grounds at Smith Neck, and her manner was consistently gracious and good humored, and not without trenchant wit when called for. Ann, we'll always love you, and hold you in our hearts and your family in our thoughts.
