Obituary of Alexander Strand

Alexander Strand, age 24, died on Sunday, January 25, 2015. He was the son of Mitchel and Regina (Perfetto) Strand of Old Saybrook. Alex was born in Middletown, CT on September 8, 1990. He graduated from Old Saybrook High School in 2009 and received his BA from High Point University in 2013. He was the beloved brother of Matthew and Thomas Strand. Alex loved music and playing drums. He played water polo and enjoyed swimming and volleyball. He had a passion for life and spending time with his many friends. Alex was the family ambassador who loved to share his affection and charm with all. He had yet to become a famous music star and circumnavigate the world while sailing with his brother. Alex was treasured by his family and friends, but all of our love cannot bring him back. Please look at his life and understand that it doesn't matter how much energy you have or how many friends you have made; if you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse – prescription or non-prescription – you run the risk of ending your life. Recognize that life is precious. Recognize that the loss of someone so young has a devastating impact on those closest to you. Please think of Alex and appreciate the gift of life, and carry on his spirit by living life to the fullest. Alex leaves behind his maternal grandmother, Frances Perfetto and his paternal grandfather, Melvin Stack; his uncles Bob Perfetto, Todd and Troy Strand and his aunt Cynthia (Stack) Keer. His loving extended family includes many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who share our grief at his loss. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:00AM at Saint John's Church, 161 Main Street in Old Saybrook. Interment services will be privately held by the Strand family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Alex's name to the Maritime Education Network, Inc., 203 Ferry Road, Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
