Obituary of Oscar Andy Buracchi

Oscar Andy Buracchi, 97 of Deep River, Connecticut, beloved husband of Virginia (Russell) Buracchi for 57 years, died peacefully at home October 16, 2020. He was born December 27, 1922 in Chester, CT, the son of the late Federigo and Carolina Buracchi. He was a graduate of Deep River High School Class of 1941; CT Technical Institute of Hartford (1949); and New England Technical Institute of Hartford (1954). He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy as a machinist Mate 1st Class, in China, American Theater, European-African Campaign and the Asiatic-Pacific aboard the USS Housatonic, USS ATR62 and USS Porter, and received a certificate from the White House signed by President Harry S. Truman. He retired as an engineering aide from Pratt Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, in 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post 61, Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Essex. A championship ballroom dancer, he and his wife Virginia competed in NY, NJ, MA and CT winning trophies, medals and ribbons. He was an avid Yankee fan since 1936, attending many games. He enjoyed vegetable gardening. He was on the Democratic Town Committee for years and also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He leaves his wife , and son Russell Andrew Buracchi, wife Ann, and grandchildren Kyle Buracchi, Leah Buracchi (and her partner Dan Fogarty), Amanda and her spouse, Stephen Mount, and a great-grandson, Dylan Fogarty; He also leaves three step-daughters, Jade Oest, Cherie Thibodeau, husband Arthur, and Patricia Pace, husband Steven; their children, Melody and Christopher Smith (wife Eileen); Thomas, Gregory and William Thibodeau; Darrell Pace and great-grandchildren Ashley, Lucas, Logan, Levi and Eli Smith. He was predeceased by his sisters Vera Martin and Amelita LaRosa, and his grandson Jerome Pace. He also leaves nieces and nephews in Florida and Connecticut. Funeral services will be privately held. Full Military Honors will be rendered at the time of his burial in Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River. A celebration of his life will take place in the future.
