Obituary of Thomas E. Haeckel

Thomas E. Haeckel passed away Friday January 8, 2021 at his home in Bonita Springs, Florida at the age of 72. Born June 17, 1948 in Eugene, Oregon he was the son of the late Lillian Tucker and Thomas Edward Haeckel. He grew up in New Haven, CT and attended Hillhouse High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy achieving the rank of Quartermaster 2nd Class Petty Officer and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He later made his home in Killingworth, Connecticut working in the concrete industry. He recently retired from his job as Plant Manager at Aiudi Concrete in Westbrook, Connecticut and settled in Bonita Springs. He was extremely well liked throughout the shoreline community. He loved to golf and to travel, enjoying trips to Newport, RI with friends and visiting family members in Arizona. He always put others before himself, and he will be remembered as a loyal, compassionate and generous friend, supportive father and a terrific grandfather. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Mock and Beverly Haeckel, and his devoted wife Shirley Corning Haeckel. He is survived by his loving companion Kathy Sullivan; sisters, Karen Murphy and Elaine Coleman; brothers, Gary Haeckel and Charlie Haeckel; (2) sons and their spouses, David and Jenni Haeckel and Stephen and Kelly Haeckel; and (3) grandchildren, Kaden, Jaxen, and Landon. Friends and family may call at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Thursday January 21st from 5-7pm. All CDC guidelines will be followed. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myer, Virginia will be privately held by the family at a later date.
