Obituary of William F. Archbold

William Frederick Archbold, 83, of Moodus, Connecticut, died on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Middlesex Hospital. He was born on January 27, 1937, in New Matamoras, Ohio, son of Emerson and Stella Archbold. He graduated from Ohio University (1959). Having been a member of the ROTC, he entered the Army upon graduation and served on active duty until 1965 and then Army Reserve until 2002. Bill loved every day of his 40-year civil service career working in acquisition and contract management for several government agencies including NASA and the CIA. In retirement he enjoyed reading, being with his family, spoiling his dog Zora and ice cream! He was married to Helen Ruth (Norman) Archbold, his wife of 60 years, on December 26, 1960 who survives. Also surviving are two children, Warren Archbold of Alexandria, VA, Leigh Ann Rankin of Centerbrook, CT; one grandchild, Benjamin William Rankin; a brother Emerson Archbold (Ed) of Barnesville, OH. He was preceded by his parents; a brother Charles Archbold (Archie) and sister Ruth Archbold. A Graveside Service will be held with full military honors on Thursday, January 28th in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street, Deep River at 11:00 AM.
