Obituary of Robert F. Johnson

Robert (Bob) Foris Johnson, 89, of Deep River, passed away after having a life fully lived. He was the beloved husband of his late wife, Rosa Krieger Johnson of Straubing, Germany. Bob was owner of Lafayette Real Estate in Deep River and a business partner of Johnson and Johnson Realty Company a business which built and managed numerous properties. Bob's real estate partnership with his brother Erwin Johnson included the development and sales of homes known as Caste View Estates in Chester, the first motel built in Old Saybrook known as the Saybrook Motor Hotel and the development of Hillside Estates in Deep River. Bob was a clear example of the word entrepreneur. He not only served the real estate industry for almost 70 years, Bob has had numerous business ventures including owning the original Bob-O-Lou's Whistle Stop in Deep River, a gravestone sales business, a taxi service and a magic shop. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in W.W.II. Bob was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of American Legion Post 61 of Deep River for 60 years. In his younger years he enjoyed the ownership of horses and throughout his life traveled throughout the America's and Europe as well as spending winters in Stuart, Fl. Robert was the fourth child of Foris Arlington Johnson of Deep River and Emily Schaub Johnson of Middletown, CT. He was predeceased by two brothers Bradford Johnson and Erwin Johnson and a sister, Lucille Buddington. He is survived by his son Robert X. Johnson, and his wife, Janet Sacco Johnson, of Killingworth, CT and his three grandchildren Emily, Katie and Lindsey Johnson. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30- 10:30am at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook. Funeral Service to follow at 10:30 at the funeral home. Interment Fountain Hill Cemetery, Deep River with full military honors.
