Obituary of John P. Granniss

John P. Granniss was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ from his son Dan's home on Feb. 15th in Westbrook at the age of 67. John is survived by his wife, Susan A. Granniss, his sons, David Granniss and his wife Lori and grandsons Landon and Logan of Boiling Springs, NC, Daniel Granniss and his wife Sabrina Granniss and grandsons, River and Gatlin of Westbrook. He also leaves his brother, Barry Granniss and his wife Maxine of Wallingford. John was born on July 18, 1947 in New Haven to Joseph M. Granniss and Purcell Gunnison Granniss. He graduated from UCONN in 1970 with a degree in Physical Education. He married Susan Everitt, the love of his life, in 1970. He lived in Columbia for 42 years. John taught Physical Education at the Mansfield Middle School for 35 years. He was an elder at Baptist Fellowship in Columbia. He was the chairman of the Lighthouse Christian School Committee at Baptist Fellowship and he was the beloved "Really Big Boy" at the preschool. He was a member of the Gideon's and enjoyed giving out bibles to the students at UCONN and Eastern CT State University. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00AM, Feb. 21st at Baptist Fellowship Church in Columbia with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lighthouse Christian School. Checks should be made out to Baptist Fellowship and designated for LCS.
