Obituary of Warren F. Elliott

Warren F. Elliott of Winthrop passed away peacefully at home with family on May 3, 2022 at the age of 92. For those of you who didn’t know him Warren was a self-made man! He was an avid reader, self-taught and a survivor! He lived in the moment, lived life to the fullest and never took NO for an answer. He was blunt to make his points, made his own rules in life and saw opportunities everywhere. He lived by the “waste not want not philosophy,” was thrifty, well respected and collected many friends along the way. He was one of the guys from Tom Brokaw’s book “The Greatest Generation.” Warren was the son of John Warren Elliott and Frances Hyde Elliott and grew up in East Haven. He was a child of the depression era, loved hunting and fishing and only attended school to 10th grade. Warren was drafted into the Army for the Korean War and spent two years in Trieste, Italy. He moved to Winthrop in 1963, was a member of the Deep River Fire Department and became captain of the Winthrop station. He was a Union Ironworker of Local 424 New Haven. Some of his major projects included the erection of the DEW line on the North Slope of Alaska and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Staten Island Tower. Warren created his own stud welding business, was an avid boat builder and yachtsman. He built speedboats in his early years, however his greatest achievement was the design, fabrication and outfitting of the 60-foot sailboat named Equaria. An amazing seaworthy steel beauty that cut through the water like butter as he captained his ship and sailed several winters from Connecticut to the Caribbean Islands and back! So Warren we bid you goodbye, as this is your last sail! Your life was well lived and one with many adventures. You are deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Warren is predeceased by his father John, mother Frances, stepfather Angelo Bellini and brother Robert. He leaves behind his wife Margo, brother John, daughters Linda Zona (Joe), Jacqueline Dorobkowski (Josh) and Cory Haser; sons Warren Jr. (Karen), Gary (Christine), Scot (Cindy) and Shaun Haser (Jenny); grandchildren Elizabeth Rousseau and Dylan (Courtney) and great-granddaughters Raegan and Colbie. Warren’s family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Friday, May 13 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook. A private interment ceremony with full military honors will be held at Winthrop Cemetery. All guests are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering from 12-3PM on Saturday, May 14 at the Carriage House at the Deep River Historical Society, 245 Main St., Deep River.
