Donald was a one-of-a-kind travel companion, always one to bring joy and laughter to any gathering, whether those in attendance were old friends or new acquaintances. I first traveled with Donald in 1988 to countries such as Czechoslovakia that still had strict import tariffs for brandys and liquers, which propted Donald to coin the phrase "booze de pays." His passion for funky postcards was legendary - even ones made of cork in Alberobello - all of which he penned to those at home in his round, thick-penned hand. The last time I traveled with Donald was 2001 on his beloved Sea Cloud (my first trip aboard, his 15th!), when his love of life and people was undiminished. Stateside, Donald came for many a dinner with Derek and me, always bearing gifts and tales of his latest auction trophy - Rex Harrison's Library chair being a prize to remember! After his accident, Donald was stalwart, doing his "homework" and defying the odds with his steady improvement. Kim's tenacity and encouragement surely contributed enormously to his recovery. I will miss Donald tremendously - a friend whose kindness and generous spirit will always stay with me. Inge Reist
