I was so sad to hear of Ed's passing. I would have liked to go visit him one more time. What a great experience meeting Ed and sharing his passions for dancing and life! Ed was a very caring man who told me so many times how special Mary and his family were to him. Ed was a very fun person to be with. He was very friendly to everyone no matter who they were. Always interested in what was going on in their lives, however trivial. Ed always brought a smile to my face. I am so glad to have met you Ed & Mary and your lovely family. You are in my prayers.
Sincerely, Alexis, Jacob & Bruce Schneider

I was a new teacher in the Hartford Arthur Murray studio, and looked up to Ed and Mary not only in a professional way, but in that warm Italian sense of family. He was so professional One day to catch my attention as I went down the stairs to leave, he yelled "Jones!". I thought he was going to die then of embarrassment for using my last name to call me. I thought it made him real and cute! He taught me so much more than dancing. He showed me class in a person.

Mrs. Varano and family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. I used to own the Essex Pharmacy and I remember Ed filling his prescriptions there. And I believe I knew other members of the family, too. I liked Ed, the few times that I spoke to him. He didn't say too much but there were occasional conversations that we had. I always thought he was a nice, gentle man, and I am sure he will be missed by many. I am glad that I knew him.

Lifting up Mary, Gina, James, and Dina as you say goodbye to your loved husband/dad. I will always remember Ed as being a very kind man. I learned a lot from him which helped me go on to great levels of success. I've thought of you all over the years fondly. I'll always remember ski trips with Ed and the gang, hanging out in Ed's office after work, and Ed's cool style on the dance floor. My prayers are that he now sits at the feet of the Lord, basking in what we can't even imagine. -Sue

Dearest Ed, dearest friend and mentor, where do we begin?
We are so terribly saddened to watch the "End of an Era" occur. It has been 45 years since our first meeting. Thank you for all of our wonderful Showcase Dance Competitions. Nothing can ever replace them. Our visits to the Jersey shore and Vermont ski. Especially our most treasured visits to your lovely, warm and inviting home with you and Mary. The plays and musicals we enjoyed at "Goodspeed".
We could never list all of the wonderful times Natalie and I have spent with you and Mary. Thank you for adopting us into your beautiful entire family. Thank you for our success in the dance business. Thank you for being our dearest friend. Our hearts are so broken. We will miss you terribly. you are once again with your lovely Mom in heaven. Rest in Peace my dear friend, in God's loving arms. We pray in Jesus name.
We Love You,
Richard and Natalie LaBrie

You have left this earthly place my friend and walked through an open door, where family and friends are waiting, with open arms and more. There's a feast of Italian foods and wine, there are sailboats on the bay, the jukebox plays your favorite songs, you dance the night away. There are students lined up outside an office where you sit dressed up so fine, you can't help smiling as they pay in cash and sign on the dotted line. You look down from heaven at your beautiful wife Mary, your children and their kids too, you smile knowing what you've made, and what God has given to you.
You've changed the lives of oh so many, they were butter that you churned, as they all went on to lead successful lives with all that they had learned. We reminisce on days of past, it feels so bitter sweet, But you will always be within our hearts until someday again we meet. Love, Leslie LaGuardia

I wept when I saw the picture of Ed Varano's passing. He was more than a fellow franchisee to me, he was a mentor, a friend. He taught me so much about being a successful franchisee and embraced our Italian heritage with sopresatta and great wine. Dancing with Ed was like riding in a Cadillac. I'll miss you Ed. You were without a doubt.. the best.
