Obituary of Edward J. Varano

Edward J. Varano, age 83, of Essex, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015 peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born in Calabria, Italy on June 22, 1932. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary L. Varano, his children, Gina M. Varano and her husband Paul Dest, E. James Varano Jr. and his wife Dara and Dina Varano and her husband Michael Joplin, his six granddaughters, Christina and Victoria Dest, Ava and Ella Varano, and Scarlett and Sienna Joplin. He also leaves his siblings, Tony Varano, Constantino Varano, Vincent Varano and Loretta Bellina and their spouses and many nieces and nephews. He was a franchisee for Arthur Murray Dance Studios for over forty years, and with his wife by his side, managed studios in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, singing, dancing and gardening. Dad was a member of The Hartford Club and the Essex Boat Club and the Corinthian Yacht Club. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Many, many thanks to his nurse Kathy for her love and dedication over the years. Dad's greatest joy was spending time with his extended family and creating a lifetime of memories for all. After a full life, he is now dancing among the stars. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street in Essex. Interment with the rendering of Military Honors will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, North Main Street in Essex.
