Obituary of F. Patrick McFadden
F. Patrick McFadden, Jr, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015 at his home in Essex, CT surrounded by the love of his family.Born July 31, 1937, Pat grew up in Larchmont, NY. He was a graduate of The Canterbury School and University of Notre Dame, class of 1960. He moved with his family to Madison, CT in 1977 to run First Bank Corp. In 1984 First Bank was acquired by Hartford National Corporation where Pat became Vice Chairman. He returned to New Haven in 1986 as CEO of Bank of New Haven Bancshares, retiring in 1997.Long a supporter of the Connecticut community, Pat McFadden served at different points as Chairman of Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale New Haven Health Services, where he was a trustee for 37 years. He served on the Board of UIL Holdings where he was Lead Director and Non-executive Chairman until his mandatory retirement in 2010. Until recently he served on the boards of Goodspeed Musicals and Higher One Corp. Additionally he served in director and senior leadership capacities for the following organizations: Greater New Haven Community Foundation, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, Connecticut River Museum, Avon Old Farms, Hamden Hall and The Country School.Pat was a longstanding member of Larchmont Yacht Club, Mory's, Madison Beach Club, Essex Yacht Club and John's Island Club.Pat is survived by his wife, Dana Davison McFadden, his children and their spouses, Mary Carroll McFadden and Jill Schwartz; Francis "Trip" and Kristin McFadden; Mark and Katie McFadden; Christopher and Jennifer McFadden; Sheilah McFadden; Luke and Marguerite McFadden; DG and Brette Fitton; Peter and Dempsey Fitton; and Ashley Fitton and Rob Vitari; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Jo McNellis McFadden. Dad/Patto/Pat was and always will be a guiding light for all who knew him, especially all of his children. He was a remarkable and proud Irishman with a quick wit, a fierce sense of loyalty to his family and friends, and never turned down an opportunity to help others. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook on Thursday from 5-8pm.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at St Margaret Church, 25 Academy St. Madison at 10am.
