Obituary of Dorothy S. Whiting

Dorothy S. "Dot" Whiting, age 95, a longtime resident of Chester passed away at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond H. Whiting who predeceased her on May 19, 2003. She was born in New Haven on January 25, 1920 the daughter of Max and Ella (Meyers) Straus. Dot was a secretary for fifteen years at the Chester Elementary School and was a member of the United Church of Chester. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed watching UNCONN Women's basketball and Jeopardy, and was always up to date with current events and politics. She always had a positive attitude and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Mark Whiting and his wife Barbara of Chester, her three grandchildren, Christian, Amy and Luke and her five great-grandchildren. Besides her husband Raymond she was predeceased by her daughter, Joy Musselman, her brother George, and sisters, Bertha and Mildred. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 11:00AM in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street in Deep River. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to Middlesex Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.
