Obituary of Elvera Ann Sopkiw
Elvera Ann Sopkiw, "The Queen" age 87 of Essex, passed away on Friday evening, March 11, 2016 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Sopkiw. Elvera was born on Staten Island, New York on November 30, 1928 the daughter of Frank and Alice (Evrard) Ceruli. She had been a resident of Essex since 1951. She and Walter were married in 1950 and he predeceased her on August 31, 1992. Elvera recently was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Ivoryton and was a Hospice volunteer for over twenty years at Middlesex Hospital, a former Den Mother for Pack # 4 in Essex and also was a member of the Emblem Club of the Westbrook Elks Lodge # 1784. She was an avid traveler who traveled to all 50 states as well as Europe and Australia. She was an usher at the Goodspeed Opera House, Norma Terris Theater and the Ivoryton Playhouse. She will be remembered as a woman of great faith, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves her five children, Carol Hert, Frank Sopkiw (Pamela), Michael Sopkiw (Suzan), Mark Sopkiw (Sylvia) and Alice M. Sopkiw, and her seven grandchildren. Besides her husband Walter she was predeceased by her grandson, Jason Hert and her brother, Norton Ceruli. A service of remembrance will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church, Main Street in Essex on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 1:00PM.
