We are so sad to learn recently of the passing of John. Cindy and I send our sincerest condolences to Susan and his entire family. I met John for the first time about a year ago shaking hands across the fence we share. He welcomed me to the neighborhood and in the same breath apologized that his lawnmower wasn't working. I told him how lovely his yard always looked with all the flowering trees and shrubs. Later that summer he came to the fence when he saw my grandchildren playing in the yard. We exchanged more friendly conversation and he offered us to enjoy his tomatoes that were just beginning to ripen. Often we would hear the laughter of his grandchildren playing in the yard and wished that someday ours would meet. He seemed like such a gentle and kind man and someone that I wish I could have known for much longer. I've read some of the wonderful memories shared by others on this site. We pray the family is comforted in knowing the positive legacy John leaves behind.

Susan & Family,
We lived next door to you two at 15 Pratt St. for almost two years & through that time John was always so friendly & welcoming to us. Every morning when I was walking down to work or coming home and he was outside he always stopped to say hi, talk to me & ask how we were all doing. I have been thinking of you constantly and will always remember your husband as the nicest guy and the first person we met when we moved in two years ago. I will miss his smile whenever I pass your house. Remember the happy times & that smile will stay with you for always.

Dear Susan and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. Although he and I never met, I feel I knew him through your wonderful stories of times spent with family at the Cape. Although much too short lived, my hope is that these memories will sustain you; providing you and your family a lifetime of comfort and peace.
Fondly, Ray and Michele Bissell

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. John was always happy to help when I had a question about natural gas transportation. I enjoyed working with him. We always shared vacation stories together. He will be missed. God and the Angels will watch over him, now. RIP.

I met John probably in 2000, through mutual friends in Old Saybrook. Then, low and behold John was my fathers neighbor in Essex. My dad loved to pick fresh tomatoes from Johns garden just over the fence and at one time told me how wonderful it was to have "such a friendly and generous neighbor". John always had a big smile and firm handshake for me and would frequently inquire as to how my family was doing in Maine where we recently moved. John was there for me when my father suddenly passed away. I will John, as I know all of our mutual friends will as well. God Bless Susan, Sarah and Chris and all extended family. You are all in our prayers.
