Obituary of Arline Brooke Cardoso
Arline Brooke Cardoso, widow of Lawrence A. Cardoso passed away on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 in Middletown after a courageous battle with gallbladder cancer. She was born Arline Elizabeth Brooke on August 1, 1940 in Middletown, Connecticut, the eldest child of Leslie A. and Arline C. Brooke. Also known as Nonnie, she grew up in Ivoryton, Connecticut. She graduated from Valley Regional High School in 1958, obtained a B.S. in secondary education from the University of Bridgeport in 1962 and a B.A. in music from the University of Wyoming in 1993. After working in Bridgeport for several years, she married Lawrence A. Cardoso. Larry obtained a position teaching Latin American History at the University of Wyoming and they moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1972. Arline returned to Connecticut in 2002 and settled in Middletown. Arline is survived by her son, David of Boise, Idaho, her sister, Roberta (Robin) Austin (partner Ted) of Westbrook, her brother, J. Michael (Mike) Brooke (wife Delores) of Westbrook, her cousin, Gail Winter of Middletown, her sister-in-law, Rose Cardoso Taylor (husband James) of California and numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son, Michael Leslie Cardoso, her sisters, Pamela Stevens, Candace Leary, and her brother, Leslie A. Brooke, Jr. Musical all her life Arline played piano and sang for many years with the La-Re-Mi chapter of Sweet Adelines. She was also a Sweet Adelines Approved Arranger. She taught piano in Laramie and in Middletown. Arline was a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Music Teachers National Association, Wyoming Music Teachers Association and Middlesex-New London Chapter of CSMTA. Thanks to Jean and Bob Elty, Rhonda and Geoff Saunders and other neighbors, friends, and colleagues who have helped in many ways during Arline's illness. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM with a time of sharing at 2:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, Connecticut.
