In the mid 70's I was the manager for Hertz rent a car on Crown St. Across the street was Pete and his Dad operating a parking lot and also National rent a car. We became very friendly and directed customers to each other if either one of us ran out of cars to rent. Hertz was advertised as #1. However, Pete would always joke as listing National as #8. Pete was a gracious man. One day he allowed me the use of his Corvette for the day. The day I had borrowed it I drove it around the block and immediately returned it. Pete was curious and asked if something was wrong with the car. I said Pete this car is too nice and I did not want the responsibility of it. He chuckled and understood. My condolences to his family.

Back in the mid 70's I was a manager for Hertz on Crown St. in New Haven. Across the street was Pete and his Dad operating a parking lot and National Car Rental. We became very friendly and would direct customers to each other if either ran out of cars to rent. Hertz was considered #1. However, Pete would refer to National as #8. Pete was a very gracious man and granted me the opportunity to take his Vette for a while. Well, I drove it around the block and returned it immediately. He was confused and asked me if something was wrong with the car. I said Pete, this car is too nice and I didn't want anything to happen to it. He was always a pleasure to converse with. My condolences to his family.

The Vincent Family, may you find comfort in
remembering all that your Husband & Dad brought
to you and to every person whose life he touched. Every time you recall his laughter,
every time you find yourself doing something
he taught you or repeating something he used to
say...every time you think of him, you bring
him closer to your heart.
We are deeply sorry for your loss.

They say all you need for an insane asylum is an empty room and the right people. I can only imagine this must have been what Peter was thinking when he invited the McManus clan into his home, summer after summer.
Some of the best memories of my childhood are of my cousins and me at Peters' cottage and the unbridled fun we all had. We were mayhem before commercials were made of such things and for reasons beyond my comprehension he embraced us, lock, stock, and barrel.
What a gift.
Without a doubt, Peter was one of the kindest, most generous people I've had the privilege to know in my lifetime and he will be missed.
We send all of our love to Margaret and the whole family.

I was saddened to hear about Peter's passing. As one of the former next door neighbors on Wilcox Avenue in Meriden, Peter always impressed me with his positive and upbeat attitude. May you take comfort in remembering the good times that you had with such a great man.
