Obituary of John Charles Meyer

Jack Meyer (John C. Meyer) passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday morning October 17th at his home in Chester. Born on August 8, 1945 he was originally from Hazardville and Enfield and has resided in Chester for the last 38 years with his loving wife Madaline (DeGeorge) Meyer who he met while proudly serving in the United States Coast Guard based out of New York. Together they have three loving children, John of Glastonbury, Jim with Tania from Palm Bay, FL and Sandy with Robert Smith from Palm City, FL, They have three grandchildren, Matthew Meyer, Caitlin Meyer, and Hayley Smith all of Florida. Jack was predeceased by his parents Agnes (Maloney) and Fred Meyer and his brother Fred M. Meyer. Besides his wife and children he leaves his father- in- law Dominic DeGeorge and three sisters- in - laws, Mary, Barbara and Irene and their families and his niece Deborah Meyer Loughnane and her family of Dalton, NH. After four years as an Engineman First Class in the Coast Guard, Jack worked for DiPietro-Kay Corp. in Rocky Hill. Then with his wife Madaline, he started their own company, Sea Power Inc caring for over 300 boats and owners from 1978 to 2012. Becoming a total laryngectomy in 2011 he was forced to retire. He never complained but instead started taking long overdue vacations to Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, Alaska, and three river cruises including last year cruising the Hudson River from New York up across the Erie Canal and up to Ontario City. He loved every peaceful minute. Jack will always be remembered for being able to fix anything for anyone, his love of his country and his honest opinions. In his memory buy something made in the U.S.A. preferably and American car. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 10:30AM at Saint Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to: Saint Joseph Church, Chester, The Chester Hose Company, Inc., The American Lung Association , or in memory of his Mom and Mother-in law, The American Heart Association.
