Obituary of Jeffery Lee Cook
Jeffery Lee Cook ("Jeffro"), a lifelong resident of Killingworth passed away at home on December 4, 2017 at the age of 66. Jeff was born to Winnie and Lee Cook on March 25, 1951. He graduated from the Morgan School in 1969 and promptly enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and honorably served his country on the U.S.S. Newport News CA-148. Jeff worked for the Town of Killingworth for 40 years. Jeff was a longtime and proud member of the Ancient Mariner's Fife and Drum Corp., the Old Saybrook V.F.W. Post #10153, and the American Legion Post #113, Old Saybrook. Affectionately known as the 'King of Killingworth', Jeff had a terrific sense of humor, and could often be found holding court at June's Outback Pub or the Killingworth Café. Jeff loved music. He was an accomplished guitarist and had a beautiful singing voice. Jeff is survived by two brothers, Craig Cook, Essex, and John (Jennifer) Cook, Deep River, and a sister, Karen Sypher, Westbrook, as well as his Godson with whom he had a very close bond, Paul Fredericksen, Killingworth. He is also survived by three nieces, Tracy, Jodi, and Kelly, and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Linda Grenman, and a nephew, Geoffrey Sypher. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Killingworth Congregational Church, 273 Route 81 in Killingworth. A celebration of Jeff's life will take place immediately following at June's Outback Pub.
