Obituary of Doreen G. Palmer
Doreen G. Palmer, age 69, the beloved wife of Stuart R. Palmer, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning March 20, 2018. Her husband and loving son Christopher D. Barnes of Philadelphia, PA were by her side. Born in Grand Junction, Iowa and raised in Natick, Massachusettes, the daughter of Eugene and Eda (Ferrari) Gross, Doreen lived all of her adult life in Connecticut; Wallingford, Cheshire & the last 26 years in East Haddam. She was an awarding winning Dale Carnegie Instructor, a Registered Nurse with Lower Valley Visiting Nurses in Centerbrook, and a Director of Sales at Pilots Point Marina in Westbrook. Doreen loved to garden and go antiquing in search of treasures. She was an accomplished baker and known for her talent to create beautiful things with a needle and thread. She had a great love of music throughout her life. Doreen embraced life with an insatiable whimsical curiosity but, of all life's gifts, Doreen most valued her family, friends and her faith. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Wallingford where she and Stuart were married on June 1st 1991, and a current member of the First Congregational Church of Deep River. She will be remembered as a joyful, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who was always there when needed with the warmest hug and her unforgettable smile. In addition to her husband Stuart and son Christopher, she is survived by three step-children, Tracy Acker and Christine Palmer both of Rexford NY and S. Douglas Palmer of East Kingston NH, her four step-grandchildren, Olivia and Emily Acker, and Hailea and Morgan Palmer, and her 6 sisters and brothers, their spouses and children. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at The First Congregational Church of Deep River, 1 Church Street in Deep River at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Doreen's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Connecticut, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
