Obituary of Joan T. Farndell

Joan T.(Clayton) Farndell, 80, of Deep River passed away peacefully but unexpectedly in her sleep Saturday morning July 16th at her home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY; the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Moriarty) Clayton. Joan was a resident of Oceanside, NY for over 40 years before moving to Deep River 15 years ago. Joan worked for New York Telephone for several years, she was a gentle and kind woman who enjoyed helping others reading, gardening and knitting, a devout Christian, a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church in Chester, volunteered at the Deep River Senior Center, also at the Westbrook Senior Center, she was also very active with Al-Anon and started many Alateen groups. Joan was a loving mother, sister and devoted friend and Grandma .She is survived by her sons John C. Farndell of Greenwich, NY, Richard Farndell of Centerbrook, CT, daughter Barbara A. Wagner of Afton, NY, 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and brother George Clayton of Middletown, NJ. She is predeceased by her son Thomas Farndell, her sister Audrey Ryan, and former husband George Farndell. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church , Middlesex Tpke in Chester. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery
