Obituary of Richard Blok
Richard J. "Dick" Blok, age 74 of Old Saybrook passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven. Dick was the beloved husband of Camille (Castaldi) Blok. He was born in Mineola, New York, the son of the late Frank and Violet (Stephen) Blok and was raised in Hempstead, New York. Dick was a veteran of the United States Army proudly serving his country from 1958 to 1965 during the Vietnam War. He was a bartender and in 1975 began working at The Windows on the World Restaurant located on the 107th floor of the World Trade Center. Dick was the front bartender catering to the club members and made many friends along the way. He retired from Windows when he moved to Connecticut in 1988. Dick was an avid sailor, self taught and an extremely capable captain. He loved cruising all over Long Island Sound, and circumnavigated Long Island and Block Island. In later years he powered up the Hudson River and cruised both the Champlain and Erie Canal up to Utica, New York. He loved to watch the New York baseball and football teams and was a big fan of WFAN and Mike Francesa. Besides his loving wife Camille he leaves his nephews, Fred and Scott Lundy of Manorville, New York and nephew Douglas Lundy of Chesapeake, Virginia. He was predeceased by his sister Frances Lundy. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 from 3-6 PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. The rendering of Military Honors will be held at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Neuroscience ICU, 20 York Street, New Haven, CT 06510.
