Obituary of Jean M. Ressler

Jean Marie (Marsden) Ressler of Deep River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2014, at The Village at South Farms in Middletown, CT. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Ressler, to whom she was married for over 63 years. Jean was born in Madison on April 6, 1927, the daughter of the late Arthur Willard Marsden and Mary Ora (Beauchene) Marsden. Upon the passing of her mother at an early age, Jean and her brother, Willard, were raised by their uncle and aunt, Harry L. and Jennie F. (Beauchene) Clark of Deep River. Jean has been a resident of Deep River for most of her life and was a graduate of Deep River High School, Class of 1945. She worked for the Town of Deep River as secretary to the First Selectman's Office, secretary to the Assessor's Office, and Assistant Town Clerk to Town Clerk Edna C. McQueeney, her mentor and dear friend for nearly 20 years. Jean also served two terms as Judge of Probate of Deep River until she was elected as Deep River Town Clerk in 1977, a position she served continuously until her retirement in 1991. Jean was always an avid volunteer throughout her life, serving on the Deep River Democratic Town Committee, Deep River Town Hall Restoration Committee, and Deep River Jr. Ancient Drum Corp Auxiliary. She was also a lifelong communicant at St. Joseph's Church in Chester. Jean leaves behind her three sons, R. Thomas Ressler and his wife Del, of Omaha, NE, Lyle R. Ressler of Southington, CT, and Jon W. Ressler of Enfield, CT; two grandsons, Ryan T. Ressler and his wife, Amanda, of Overland Park, KS, and Jeremy M. Ressler and his wife, Liz, of Tonganoxie, KS; two great-grandtwins, Josie and Maddox Ressler of Tonganoxie, KS, and a great-grandson, Emmett Ressler of Overland Park, KS. She was predeceased by her brother, Willard B. Marsden, her half-sister, Dorothea Parker Newcity, and her three half-brothers I. Arthur Parker, Robert W. Parker, and Philip Marsden. We would also like to recognize her caregiver, Sharron, for her kindness and support over the years. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. Graveside services will be privately held in the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River.
