Obituary of Stephen John Lebowich

Stephen John Lebowich, 102, of Deep River, loving husband of the late Florence (Baroni) Lebowich passed away December 7, 2011 at Middlesex Hospital. Stephen was born on Christmas day 1908 in Deep River and resided there nearly 104 years where he built his own home and raised his family. He was the son of the late Michael and Anna Lebowich. Stephen was a daily communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Chester and, in 1947, became a charter member of the Knights of Columbus there. He was a carpenter by trade but "an engineer by design." He was a loving husband and father who had a great love for dancing, was an avid gardener who loved to share his bounty, and enjoyed beekeeping and the nature around him. From an early age the Connecticut River was his playground. Stephen is survived by his daughter Gail Gallagher of San Jose, CA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of over 72 years he is predeceased by his daughter Carole Chandler, son-in-law Timothy Gallagher, and 11 siblings. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 pm at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Church, Middlesex Tpke in Chester. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery
