My family moved into their newly completed home on Book Hill Rd. Deep River, CT at the end of the 1953 Elementary School term. Summer! Welda, Robbie's Wife, brought Evvy, their Son, to see the new boy who just might be a friend to enjoy during the years ahead. My Brother, Mark, had his wishes granted the moment they met. From then on our family and theirs were interlock. We shared many holidays and Welda became our sitter. Robbie had the best laugh I have ever heard and the quietest, almost shy, demeanor of anyone I had met. He could fix most anything and the gadgets that he and Welda collected were on display throughout their home. In Robbie's later years he was the Scottie walker on River Road where they lived. He dutifully carried Guffy, their second Scottie, up the stairs to bed at night and down each morning, the stairway was very steep with narrow treads in their older Cape Cod home. There was always a pot of coffee on and a welcome smile in greeting. Robbie was the Father that every kid wishes for.
