Obituary of Dorothy M. Cathcart

Dorothy M. Cathcart, 93, of Chester Village West in Chester, passed died peacefully in the presence of her immediate family on August 31, 2012. Born on August 19, 1919, in New York City, she was the daughter of Dorothy and Henry Michaels. She is survived by three sons, Christopher, Michael and Wesley, and two grandchildren, Scott and Chelsea, all of Lyme and Old Lyme. She was a magna cum laude graduate of New York City's Hunter College, Class of 1941. After graduation she worked for the Freeport Sulfur Company before marrying Thomas E. Cathcart, Jr. on July 4, 1943. Both Thomas and son, Thomas E. Cathcart, III predeceased her. During her married years she was an active volunteer with the local American Red Cross Chapter and Child and Family Services. Also, along with the late Jane Berry, she was a proprietor of Country Casuals, a women's boutique in Old Lyme. She and her husband of 67 years were long time members of the Old Lyme Beach Club and the Old Lyme Country Club, in which both were active. Memorial services have not yet been announced.
