Obituary of Karl E. Raunikar

Karl Edward Raunikar, 54, of Rocky Hill died September 14, 2014 after a long illness. He was the son of Eugene and the late Elizabeth Bush Raunikar of Old Saybrook. Karl was born July 9, 1960 in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Old Saybrook Senior High School in 1978, attained an Associate degree, and began a 25 year career at Hartford Hospital as a Lab Technician in their hematology lab. Karl's work at the hospital was fortuitous as he garnered unwavering support both professionally and personally from the staff as he worked through his medical challenges. Karl especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, attending many of their various functions at school, and watching them excel in their endeavors. He loved spending time outdoors, and his love of camping, which started at Camp Hazen, carried over into annual trips with the family. In addition to his father, Karl is survived by his sister Marla and husband John Bogaert of Essex and his brother Mark and wife Jane of Westbrook. In addition, he is survived by five nieces and nephews; Will and Julia Bogaert, and Brendan, Annie and Jason Raunikar, all of whom will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18th from 5-7pm at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook. Funeral service will follow on Friday at 10am at the funeral home. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook.
