Dear Jane and family, I, too, was greatly saddened to hear of Sandy's passing. He was a wonderful friend, at college and ever since. The year I roomed with him and two other fine gentlemen was a very good year for me. He even showed me how to varnish my fraternity initiation paddle. Boater's knowledge? And, Jane, I have always appreciated the kindnesses you have shown to me, just another member of the old crowd. Best wishes on this sad occasion. Howie

Dear Chris and family, Sorry to hear of your loss. Always enjoyed your dad (and mom) as well as the fun times we had growing up in Haddam. Lots of great memeories of riding to school in your jeep at about 25 mph(top speed)with minimal heat. No doubt your dad had something to do with this and figured we would be safe at low speeds. Not sure he planned on us taking the jeep on the powerlines and getting stuck. Anyways, sorry for your loss please let me know if I can help in any way. Sincerely, Eric Ott

To Chris, Drew, Jane and the entire Knowlton family, my condolences. I was only a few years out of college when I first met Sandy while sailing. Unlike the other businessmen and older adults that I sailed for at that time, Sandy was different he was young at heart and more like one of us in spirit. He trusted us and deferred to our expertise in sailing while at the same time teaching us subtle life lessons, in bits and pieces, through astute observations and a certain dry esoteric humor that could be lost on one not closely paying attention. He would allow a bunch of kids to commandeer one of his sailing yachts with a live-in-the-moment attitude that was worthy of emulation and invigorated us all. He was a generous and fun man to hang around with. He will be missed. Although I had recently lost touch with Sandy, and your family, I will never forget the wonderful times we spent together on the water. The Glendale list-serve sent word that the flag is at half-mast for Sandy. My condolences to his family. I was glad to know that his wife Jane is still alive. I am a cousin somehow through the Carlisles. We used to call his mother "Aunt Izzy." I baby-sat occasionally for their children in the wonderful house tucked back on the wooded lane.
