Revision, I lost a good friend about a month ago. Her name was Jean. I was her second husband, but she was my first wife for ten years which gives her a special place in my heart forever. Looking back, they were pretty good years for us and we accomplished a lot together raising her only son David through his formative years, building a beautiful house where she has lived ever since, building a business for our income, to name a few. I would describe her during our years together as beautiful (both physically and spiritually), above average intelligence, a hard worker, meticulously clean (hence the nickname someone gave of Clean Jean which she wore proudly for many years), honest as the day is long, a very caring person with a good sense of humor, and I could go on and on. When we parted, there was no animosity, only sadness on both our parts. I am happy to say we remained friends both through our divorce and over the last thirty-eight years. I have lived in Florida since 1990 and on my frequent visits to Connecticut, I have always called Jean to set up a visit while I was there. The last few years, I have missed several visits with her due to failing health, which caused her to be in the hospital when I was there. For this reason I was very happy to be able to visit with Jean and Henry with my wife Joyce when we visited New England last June. Jean was in good spirits and seemed to be pretty healthy. I was deeply saddened to find out that was to be our last visit. I am glad we had a chance to say goodbye. May she rest in peace, she has earned it.
The Traveler
Jean has put on invisibility. Dear Lord,
I cannot see
But this I know, although the road ascends
And passes from my sight,
That there will be no night;
That You will take her gently by the hand
And lead her on
Along the road of life that never ends,
And she will find it is not death but dawn.
I do not doubt that You are there as here,
And You will hold her dear.
