Obituary of Philip W. Maas
Philip W. Maas Jr. passed away on February 6, 2014; joining his wife Doris (Zanni) Maas who predeceased him on November 8, 2006. Phil was born in Chester, son of the late Philip W. Sr. & Jennie (Grote) Maas. Phil leaves behind his brother-in-law John Zanni of Riverton, UT, many nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces & nephews around the country. In addition to his parents Phil was predeceased by his sister-in-law Erma Zanni. After graduation from Chester Elementary and High School, Phil entered Yale University to study Music, Business Administration and Architecture. Upon completion he taught piano and organ. He was also an Organist & Choir Director at St. John's Church in Old Saybrook, Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex and Christ the King Church in Old Lyme. Sometime later Phil became Sales Manager for Verplex Company, a major lamp and lampshade manufacturer; he later went on to be Vice President and CEO of Keystone Masonry, the largest non-union masonry contractors in New England and ultimately became Vice President and CEO of Clark Corp. a major General Contractor and Development Firm. As the first Connecticut President of the Association of Builders and Contractors, a national non-union association of general contractors, architects and engineers, he was well known in the construction industry. Visitation will be held at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook on Tuesday, Feb 11th from 9:30-10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am at St. Joseph's Church in Chester. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Phil wishes you all the best and thanks you for being his friend.
