Obituary of Richard F. Budney
Richard F. “Stick", “Dick”, Budney, age 87, of Ivoryton, passed away on April 23, 2018 at Hartford Hospital with his loving wife Dolores by his side. He was born in Middletown on November 5, 1930 the son of the late Frank and Jennie (Gustoski) Budney. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years Dolores (Banning) Budney, his daughter Diane Belval and her husband Stephen, and granddaughter Megan Giamei. He was predeceased by his son Paul R. Budney on March 14, 2017. He also leaves behind his brother, Walter R. Budney of Ivoryton and his sister, Lorraine B. Flanagan of Melbourne Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. Dick was a graduate of Pratt High School in Essex and served with the United States Army during the Occupation in Japan. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the US Army, a National Guard Technician, and a Deputy Sheriff of the Middlesex Court. He was a Past Commander and Life Member of the Essex Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus in Old Saybrook, the Polish Falcons of America, and the Interstate Police Officers Assoc. He was also a Past President and member of the Essex Lions Club, member of Essex Veterans Memorial Hall and a communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street in Essex. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in the Centerbrook Cemetery, Westbrook Road, in Centerbrook. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Dick’s name to the Essex Lions Club Diabetes Fund, PO Box 525, Essex, CT 06426.
