So many memories with James through the years. We met while he was getting his private pilot certificate, than became roommates and friends.watched him go through all his flight training, than was able to fly with him as my copilot flying a Learjet. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for you. I’ll miss you james, keep flying!

I went to high school and played football with Jim for four years.
He was a great friend and team mate.
Even though we didn't stay in touch much i do think of him and our other team mates often.
Rest in peace my friend.

To the entire Costin family , I would like to extend my condolences after hearing of the passing of James . Although James and I only spent our 3 years of high school together , it feels like so much longer . A group of football teammates ( and Billy Bell ) that bonded together in those few years crammed a lot of support , friendship , good times and memories in for sure . I know his shipmates would say the same things about James . Team over self was the kind of guy that he was and that drew you to him and brought you to friendship . We bonded through football , music and a slight bit of crazy to mention a few things . He was a strong , caring ,compassionate kind of guy and he will be missed . He touched a lot of people, which is evident by looking at social media. My thoughts are with you , his family and especially his girls .
My deepest sympathy , Dave Hallock

Like James, I was based on the USS Sample, where we had to endure drinking crazy things like sailor's grog, and these weird drinks with umbrellas in them, on the beaches of Waikiki. In spite of this hardship, James was happy and fun to be around. In lieu of feeling sad, I'm going to try to focus on how happy we were.

That is great attitude Daniel... I will try to do the same... and James would like that .... focus on the happy... he certainly loved the stories from the ship! Especially the one about crossing the equator!!!? You guys are cray cray in the Navy!! God Bless and Thank you for your thoughts and stories... Aloha... xo

Kevin and all the Costin family, I am shocked and so saddened to hear of Jim’s sudden passing. Jim and I attended Amity together and become good friends through football and our love of good music. Thank you Mark for your condolences... he spoke of you all the time when sharing stories from “back in the day”. The memories are helping us get through this hard time... I do remember one story from that time ..when my parents were away and James had the whole football team over for a party... and my sister Karen was in charge... boy did he catch it for that...... but they laughed about it in later years!!! I was too little to be part of the fun at that time... God Bless you.

James, you were such a great friend to me in high school. So kind and caring and we shared a love of horses and cars. I was so happy to see you several years back at a gas station of all places where we both forgot where we needed to be and talked and talked and then became friends on Facebook where we continued our chats. I am shocked and saddened by your passing. I hope Goldie met you at the rainbow bridge and maybe you and Billy Bell are catching up. My deepest condolences to your family. I'll catch you on the other side.
