Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Keenans. Growing up with Chris on Long Island, I got to know John very well. If there was ever a question or concern, he was the guy to ask. I remember one time when we were boarded by the Coast Guard while moving Mr. and Mrs. Keenan’s Grand Banks 32. I’m not sure about Chris, but I was very nervous. The coastie was lecturing us on protocol until John stepped up soft spoken and calm as usual. He had this guy stuttering and stammering as he quoted coast guard regulations. Within minutes we were on our way again.
Later in life, we would go skiing in Alta, Utah..... a sort of mancation. John would tell me these incredible stories of the days when he was running ships all over the world. During one stay we were surprised to have Tony Horton (fitness guru - P90x) staying at our lodge. We were having dinner (loaded Mac and cheese, if I remember correctly) and John leans back with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and offers Tony a beer. Tony politely declined (I think we scared him a bit). That was John; intelligent, funny, kind, generous, and just a great person. He will be missed.
