Obituary of Marilyn R. Regan
Marilyn Ruth Regan, of Old Saybrook, CT, died peacefully on March 21, 2022, at the age of 87. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Regan; daughters, Lisa Feltes and Amy Jonsson (Eric); grandchildren, Logan, Cooper, Brooke, and Brandon; and great-grandchildren, Nora and Julia. Marilyn is predeceased by her parents, Dale and Ruth Kelley; her two brothers, Neale Kelley and Boyd Kelley; and her granddaughter, Haley Feltes.
Marilyn was born on June 21, 1934, in Danville, IA to parents Dale and Ruth Kelley. Marilyn attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA for her undergraduate degree in education and earned her master’s degree in music education at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT. She was a music educator for 30+ years, primarily in the Wilton Public Schools in Wilton, CT. Marilyn was a committed teacher who dedicated her career to instilling her love of music in all her students. She was an active member and leader of music organizations, including the American Orff Schulwerk Association and MENC. In addition, Marilyn was the children’s choir director for several churches in Fairfield County, CT, most notably at Greens Farms Congregational Church in Westport, CT. Her love of music ran deep, and she was an inspiration to many.
Marilyn’s heart was filled with love of family, friends, church, gardening, cooking, tennis, biking, and traveling. She was a kind, generous, and compassionate wife, friend, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her retirement, she volunteered countless hours in her community as an advocate for families in need. She will be remembered for her positive energy, cheerful disposition, selflessness, and care for others.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 2 Ferry Rd., Old Lyme, CT 06371. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a children’s charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home of Centerbrook.
